Service: 9
Ambience: 2
Recommendation: Excellent! In our opinion everyone MUST TRY this one-of-a-kind restaurant that does a great job serving classic Southeast Asian dishes that are found at hawker stands in Malaysia and Singapore.
When we first learned about a “Hawker-style” Southeast Asian restaurant in Apple Valley we were intrigued. Having visited both Malaysia and Singapore we have a great love for Hawker food (a hawker is a food stall, usually located as a part of food center). This restaurant is in a strip mall, across from a Home Depot, in Apple Valley. I would consider this more of a take-out place as seating is limited to 2-3 tables and the location itself is not very big. Although the ambience is deficient, you would be remiss to not go there for the food and the care with which the owners (who are from Malaysia) serve their patrons. The menu is diverse and authentic – you may not recognize many of the dishes if you haven’t tried Malay food before. The Roti Canai is an
Indian bread and Satay 2 Go does it just as they do in Malaysia/Singapore. The Laksa Soup (a coconut curry soup with noodles, meat, tofu, and some vegetables) is flavorful and the textures of the add-ins complement the soup wonderfully. Both the Singapore Rice Noodles and Chow Fun are cooked to perfection and spiced nicely. On special request they will bring out a Thai Chili Soy Sauce add-on (this really kicks up the dish). They offer a nice selection of Asian beverages including tropical fruit drinks and a highly recommended Soursop beverage (Soursop is a fruit with a pineapple/citrus flavor). Satay 2 Go also has an Asian bakery serving BBQ Buns and our favorite, the Coconut Raisin Bread. $
Update (January 31, 2008) – Another pleasant experience at Satay 2 Go. We tried a couple of dishes we’ve never had before and both were fabulous. The Korean Bulgoki (grilled sliced steak marinated in BBQ sauce)
has awesome flavor and the steak was very tender. The Mee Rebus (chili potato noodle soup with shrimp and chicken) was comfort food and quickly warmed us up from the chill outside. This soup has a spicy, sweet, creamy base and is served with noodles, lime, eggs, chilies, shrimp and chicken. Highly recommended – make sure you slurp the noodles (it’s customary in some Asian cultures and is considered a sign that you really enjoy the food). As always, service was pleasant and prompt.![]()
